1. How do I upload my photos?Top ↑

First of all, you must register on the website and activate your account via email. Then, you log onto the website again, click “Upload” on Assignment/Current Assignment page to upload your photos .

2. Must all uploaded photos be about Shanghai?Top ↑

Yes. “The People’s Archive” Photo Submission Campaign is designed to create an archive of images for the city of Shanghai. The campaign comprises ten assignments, each covering a different segment of the population. The photos are to depict the impressions and dreams about Shanghai as a city using diverse angles and versatile approaches. Selected works will compose a collective portrait of Shanghai that is dynamic, objective and reliable. Featuring an extensive scope and creating endless interpretive possibilities, the ten assignments will produce a commemorative collection of artistic images for the “Dream Cube” and the city of Shanghai by engaging all levels of communities.

3. What kind of photos can be uploaded?Top ↑

Format: only JPG files are acceptable
Size: 500KB ~ 5MB
Content: any photo that contains reactionary, pornographic, violent, bloody or other illegal content is strictly prohibited from being uploaded or disseminated. The website’s back-office vetting system conducts real-time monitoring of all uploads, and will delete any such entry immediately.    For more information, please read the website’s User Registration Agreement and Legal Statement carefully.

 

4. Why must all uploads be bigger than 500k?Top ↑

A selection of uploaded photos will be integrated into the Dream Cube’s remarkable multimedia content, when the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion officially opens to visitors in May 2010. In order to ensure that selected photos have the right resolution and precision to be displayed in multimedia, all uploads must feature a size of between 500K and 5M.

5. How do I know that my photos have been selected for the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion? Top ↑

There are two ways for you to know whether your photos have been selected:
1. Go to the web page of “Gallery”, click “Selected for The Pavilion” in “Other Filters” in the lower right part of the 3D Gallery Wall, and find out whether your photos have been selected.
2. If your photos have been selected for the Pavilion, a notification email will be sent to you automatically.

6. What is a “featured contribution”?Top ↑

The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion has invited worldly renowned photographers and artists to form a jury, which will select featured contributions on a weekly basis. These featured contributions will enjoy favorable treatment, such us being placed on the front page of the website or as the sample images for relevant Assignments. In addition, the photos to be used in the Pavilion will also be selected from the “featured contributions.”

7. Why can’t I see my photos on the front page?Top ↑

The front page of the website and web pages for the Current Assignment only display featured contributions (What is a “featured contribution”?). You can find your photos by going to “Gallery,” or clicking on “My Media” after logging onto the website. However, you cannot browse your photos if they fail to pass the vetting procedure.

8. Why do my photos look compressed on the website?Top ↑

To enable faster browsing, the system will automatically generate photos of a smaller size or dimension to make it easier for user to explore the website. All original files are kept in the database. If your photos are selected for the Pavilion, the original files will be used.

9. By what principle the vetting system reject photos?Top ↑

Apart from the general prinicipal that any photo contains anything that is reactionary, pornographic, violent, bloody or other illegal contents will be rejected, photos uploaded may also be denied for the following reasons:
1. Photos that are irrelevant to the assignments.
2. Photos whose content are similar (the same user).
3. Photos that are repeatedly uploaded.
4. Photos that cannot be browsed properly due to the addition of frame, post production and synthesis or photoshopping
5. Photos with unidentifiable contents.

10. How do I change my photo data? Top ↑

Log onto the website, click “My Media” in the upper right corner to enter the web page for the 3D Gallery Wall. Then, click the photo and select “Editing” to change the photo’s caption, description, and tag. (See attached)

11. Can I delete my own photos?Top ↑

Yes. First, log onto the website and click “My Media” to enter the web page for the 3D Gallery Wall. Then, click the photo that you want to delete and select “Delete.”

12. How do I browse my photos?Top ↑

If your photos are approved by the vetting system, you may go to “Explore,” or click “My Media” after logon to view your uploaded photos.

13. Do the pictures uploaded have to match the current assignment?Top ↑

No, it don’t have to. The user can upload pictures to anyone of the 10 assignments. The monthly current assignment is designed to promote an assignment each month and to genenrate more entries in that specific assignment.

14. How do I use the 3D Gallery Wall? Top ↑

The 3D Gallery Wall uses 3D flash technology. So, first of all, you must make sure that your browser features the Adobe Flash Player 9 plug-in or higher.
Apart from being the platform for browsing photos, the 3D Gallery Wall helps users to search photos based on ones needs.
1. Sorted by “Most Recent” (default) or “Rated” (See attached)



2. Search: you can search photos by “Title” or “User.” You may even opt for an advanced search by selecting “Adjust Filters.” (See attached)



3. Adjust Filters: through the filters listed on the tool bar of “Adjust Filters,” a user may search photos that he or she is interested in by “Assignment” or “Tag,” or by selecting one or several filters in “Other Filters.”



4. Other Filters: Other Filters include “Highly Recommended,” “Selected for The Pavilion,” “Most Clicked,” “Just for Participation,” “My Favorites (requires logon),” “My Media (requires logon),” and other browsing options.

15. How do I get the latest news about the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion and the campaign? Top ↑

You can subscribe to the e-newsletter of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion. The website will send updates and news about the campaign to all subscribers on a regular basis.
How: Go to Pavilion Info > Newsletter and type in your valid email address.

16. Why can’t I browse the website properly? Why can’t I see “Current Assignment” and “Explore”?Top ↑

To ensure smooth running, please use Microsoft IE 6.0 or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or any higher version. (The “Preview Pavilion” requires a plug-in of Adobe Flash Player 10 or higher)

17. Will I be rewarded for participating in the campaign? Top ↑

The photo submission campaign will last from August, 2009 to April, 2010. A number of awards will be selected every month. These awards include:
Excellence Award: 10 submissions each month. The prize is one Expo ticket.
Creative Award: 100 submissions each month. The prize is one waterproof LOMO film camera.

18. What kinds of contributions are likely to win? Top ↑

Any photo that is developed and created by you individually, and that complies with the requirements of the ten Assignments, and that is able to showcase the city of Shanghai, its people, businesses, life and culture has the opportunity to be selected for the Pavilion.

19. What prize will be awarded to winners of photos selected for the Pavilion? Top ↑

Winners of photos selected for the Pavilion will be awarded an SLR camera. The list of winners will be published on the official website of “The Dream Cube.” Please visit our website for updates and notification of award winners.

20. What are the difference between Commended Contributions and Selected Works for The Pavilion? Any difference on selection criteria? Top ↑

“Selected for the Pavilion” are those photos that will finally be integrated into the Dream Cube’s remarkable multimedia content. The current “Selected for the Pavilion” are candidates for the final selection of the Pavilion’s media producer.

Commended Contributions are selected by world-renowned photographers and artists on a weekly basis. Best photos of the month will be selected from weekly commended contributions.

In terms of the selecting criteria, “Selected for the Pavilion” are those that meet the needs for multimedia content to be exhibited at the pavilion, while “Commended Contributions” are outstanding photos in terms of subject, photography technique and artistic touch.

21. Can I change the assignment field of my photo after uploading? Top ↑

No you can’t. But you can change your photos’ name, description and tag after uploading.

Before the opening of the World Expo, selected images will be featured on LED screens and billboards at various high-traffic department stores, supermarkets, and commercial streets within Shanghai, as well as on touch-screen posters in residential areas and taxis. Final screening will select the photos that will not only be integrated into the Dream Cube’s multimedia contents, but also be published in an album. During the Expo 2010, the album will be distributed to VIP guests as a gift. It will also be available at the “Dream Cube” gift shop.

1. When will the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion open to the public? Top ↑

The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion will begin its trial operation in April 2010. The Dream Cube officially opens to visitors in May 2010, together with other pavilions.

2. Do I need a ticket to visit the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion? Top ↑

Visitors can enter the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion with valid Expo tickets. Shanghai Expo 2010 tickets are divided into two categories – for individual admission and for group admission. In fact, there are nine types of tickets, namely, Peak Day Single Day Admission, Peak Day Special Admission, Standard Day Single Day Admission, Standard Day Special Admission, 3 Day Admission, 7 Day Admission, Evening Admission, Group Admission, and Student Group Admission. No complementary tickets are available during the Expo. All visitors, except children at or under 1.2 meters need tickets for entry.

About Ticket Reservations:

1. When can I make a reservation to visit the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion?Top ↑

From April 20th, 2010, the reservation system will open to public. Visitors can make reservations within 10 days since May 1st (except May 4th).

2. What is the difference between on-site reservations and online, telephone, or SMS reservations?Top ↑

The on-site reservation system can only be made at the reservation terminal at Shanghai Corporate Pavilion while the online, telephone and SMS reservations can be made anywhere.
When you make reservations via internet, telephone or SMS, you will receive a confirmation code. At the on-site reservation terminals, by entering your mobile phone number and the confirmation code, you will be given an admission ticket, and then enter the pavilion by ticket.
Note: Visitors who make reservations via internet, telephone, or SMS will be eligible for the lucky draw organized by the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion. Winners will be awarded small gifts of RMB30 yuan and there is also a special prize of RMB 5,000yuan for each round of lucky draw.
Those who make on-site reservations are not eligible for this activity.

3. Is online and SMS reservation available 24 hours a day?Top ↑

Both online and SMS reservation are available 24 hours a day. Telephone reservation service is available from 09:00 till 17:00 everyday.

4. How can I make on-site reservations?Top ↑

There are seven reservation terminal machines at the entrance of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion. You can make your reservations there. The reservation system will inform you of the waiting time and you can visit other pavilions if time allows.

5. How many days one can reserve in advance? Generally speaking, how many days in advance do I need to make a reservation?Top ↑

For on-site reservations, you can only book the sessions on that day. If you make a reservation via internet, telephone or SMS, you can book any session within 7 days. It is recommended to make reservations via the official website of the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion where you can see all the information on the reservation status of every session in the next 7 days.

6. How do I know that I have successfully made the reservation? How do I enter the pavilion at the reserved time?Top ↑

After you have made a successful reservation via internet, telephone, or SMS, you will receive a confirmation code via SMS. At the reservation terminals, you can print out an admission ticket by entering your mobile phone number and the confirmation code, and then enter the pavilion by the ticket.

No, you can just go to the “Make a Reservation” page and reserve a session.

8. If I make an on-site reservation, am I eligible for the lucky draw?Top ↑

No. Reservations made on-site are not eligible o the lucky draw.
