Backgrounds
Shanghai consists of myriad people, families, community groups and businesses and receives visitors from all parts of the world. The visitors in their turn bring new vitality and cultural diversity to the city. Everyone has his or her own dream about the future. Any progress starts with a dream. Launching “The People’s Archive” campaign and creating an archive of images will help the pubic better understand Shanghai, a charming city with rich history, as well as its past and its present. As a result, the future of Shanghai will be shaped by imaginations and visual contributions of ordinary people.
The “Dream Cube” , Shanghai Corporate Pavillion will present a highly interactive experience. Photos, paintings and other images contributed by the members of the public will be displayed at multiple locations of the Pavilion. Such works will be selected from submissions by ordinary people. The public can create their own works on the specified assignments and upload them to the Dream Cube’s website (www.expo2010scp.com). All uploaded submissions will be reviewed by a jury of artists and photographers, who will make selections from them to be shown in shopping malls, supermarkets, taxis, and traditional media outlets and on big screens on street corners and multimedia displays in communities across Shanghai in the early, middle and late phases of the Expo.
With a unique solicitation approach and creative assignments, “The People’s Archive” campaign provides a platform for anyone who is interested in contributing his or her work and showing off his or her talent to participate in the design and building of the “Dream Cube.”
Selected works by ordinary people, artists and photographers will be integrated into the close-to-20-minute experience of the “Dream Cube.” In addition, these chosen works will be published in an album so that more fans of art and photography will know about them. During the Expo 2010, the album will be distributed to VIP guests as a gift. It will also be available at the “Dream Cube” gift shop.
