Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, World Expo 2010, China
Dubbed the "Dream Cube", Shanghai Corporate Pavilion of World Expo 2010 is co-financed and constructed by nearly 40 large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises under the State-owned Asset Supervision and Administration Commission of Shanghai Municipal Government (SASAC), managed for the most part by Shanghai Guo Sheng Group. The "Dream Cube" is an eco-environmental architecture which features smart technology, fantastic mood and interactive experience. The style, design, environmental applications, fabrication, entertainment experience and public participation of the architecture will magically reveal the brilliant future of Shanghai.
The "Dream Cube" covers an area of about 4,000 square meters and it is located at the Corporate Pavilion Area. The whole construction and exhibition is expected to take about 10 months to be finished. Guided by the concept of “My City, our Dreams”, the "Dream Cube" brings together well-known designers, architects, writers, scholars, visual artists, the large-scale activities directors, energy and technology professionals both from home and abroad, who will boldly try out new technology and use new materials to show the new point of view of urban life. The 20-minute visiting experience of the "Dream Cube" will be a highly interactive, entertaining tour. With the impact of vision, music and experience of interactive control, people will ponder themselves of great responsibilities with Shanghai Corporate to create a better life in the future of Shanghai.
An Experience that Combines Entertainment Value with Philosophical Ideas
The architectural design of the pavilion is inspired by an idea advocated by a traditional Chinese romantic philosophical story, “In Dream with The Butterflies”. The pavilion is divided into four areas: a queuing area, a transition area, the road to Shanghai road and the journey into Shanghai’s future. The visitors, during a 20-minute integrated experience with stunning visual and audio effects, will be stimulated to reflect on the responsibilities that they as individuals and the Shanghai corporate community as a whole should shoulder in building a bright future for the city.
Visitors will begin their journey with a conversation between a grandfather and a granddaughter. Their viewpoints represent the differing views of two generations on city development, living environment, happiness and values, and they are each perplexed by life in their own way. They eventually come to join visitors, realizing that only through concerned efforts can we have a better world to live in.
The entire experience, featuring high technology, dreamlike visual and audio impact that is carefully blended with diversified interactive activities, will lead visitors into a world completely isolated from the outside. The experience will strike a chord in the visitor’s mind while they enjoy this sensory pleasure.
