Yu Qiuyu
Yu Qiuyu is a well-known scholar of Chinese culture and writer of international fame. During his early days in Shanghai, he was a planning consultant to the Shanghai government and head of the Shanghai Theatre Academy. He has won First Prize for National Best Textbooks, the Lu Xun Literature Prize, and the Taiwan Platinum Writer Prize, among others.
In the early 1990s, he quit his job and embarked on a journey reviewing the legacies of Chinese culture. On his journey, he created a new writing style called the "cultural meditation essay", opening a new chapter in literary writing. In the late 1990s, he started to work with Phoenix TV, conducting comparative studies on Chinese culture. He has been repeatedly invited to give lectures about Chinese culture at Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Maryland. His books have long topped the bestselling lists of Chinese books around the globe. In June 2008, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission decided to establish the "Master Yu Qiuyu Studio."
