Fondly known as the “Dream Cube”, the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion is backed by 38 large and medium size state owned enterprises which are under the lead of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Shanghai Municipal Government. Shanghai Corporate Pavilion aims to depict Shanghai’s future in a magical way through architectural style, design concept, environmental protection applications, exposition methods, entertaining experience and public participation.
The Shanghai Corporate Pavilion will occupy an area of 4,000 square meters and will be located in the Expo’s corporate pavilion area. Guided by the concept of “My City, our Dreams”, the pavilion makes bold application of new technologies and materials in the presentation of a new city life with first-class architects, interactive media designers, cultural planners, writers, film and visual artists, environmental and innovative technology professionals. It would be a wonderful dreaming journey to visit this highly interactive and recreational pavilion in the 15 minutes. All the visitors can feel Shanghai enterprises and their own responsibilities to make the dream of a brighter future through sophisticated technology and metamorphic architecture.
An Experience that Combines Entertainment Value with Philosophical Ideas
The organization and construction work of the Shanghai-based joint corporate pavilion will be managed for the most part by Shanghai Guo Sheng Group under the coordination of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Shanghai Municipal Government. The pavilion will be an ecological building featuring intelligent technology, a dreamlike ambience and an interactive experience. It embodies the journey of Shanghai-based companies as they grow from small to large and powerful, and embark on the road of sustained development by integrating resources and leveraging complementary strengths. Instead of relying on air conditioning, the pavilion employs environmentally friendly materials and leading-edge solar power generation technology to provide visitors with a comfortable micro-climate during the Expo period, when Shanghai is relatively hot and humid. The charms of Shanghai Corporate Pavilion lie not only in the architecture, but also in the dreamlike interactive experience. Instead of a cursory tour, visitors are guided through an interactive and immersive experience with dreamlike images. The intelligently-designed Shanghai Corporate Pavilion has no manual controls for its facilities, magic lighting and interactive effects; they are all automatically adjusted to accommodate the changing weather, sunlight and visitor patterns.
The architectural design of the pavilion is inspired by the concept of “maintaining harmony between nature and man”, an idea advocated by traditional Chinese Taoism, and by a romantic philosophical story, “In Dream with The Butterflies”. The pavilion is divided into four areas: a queuing area, a transition area, the road to Shanghai road and the journey into Shanghai’s future. The visitors, during a 17-minute integrated experience with stunning visual and audio effects, will be stimulated to reflect on the responsibilities that they as individuals and the Shanghai corporate community as a whole should shoulder in building a bright future for the city.
